It's January. Year-end fundraising starts NOW

The giving season may be behind us, but the stewardship season is just beginning.

Don't let your next best prospect get lost in the crowd.
Don't let your next best prospect get lost in the crowd.

This is the moment where fundamentals matter most—especially when time is your most limited resource. Start by prioritizing. Not every donor requires the same next step, but a few deserve immediate attention. Start looking at some of these segments:

-Donors who made significant year-over-year increases

-Supporters who re-engaged after being lapsed (SYBUNTS too!)

-First-time donors who gave at a meaningful level

These outliers are signals. Treat them that way.

Before reaching out, do your homework. Then move into discovery—authentic inquiry, careful listening, and genuine curiosity. For starters...

...Ask why now?

...What caught their attention this time?

...What issues are most important to them today?

Resist the temptation to assume you already know. Donor priorities shift. Context changes. Strong stewardship is built on understanding, not assumptions.

Use what you learn to shape personalized cultivation and solicitation plans for 2026, rooted in research and grounded in data.

And if you don’t yet have a clear process—or want to refine the one you have—this is an ideal moment to be intentional. At Morning Star Partners, we help leaders bring structure, focus, and clarity to stewardship planning so limited time is spent where it matters most. Want to learn more? Let's talk.

The work you do now will determine not just next year’s results, but the strength of the relationships you carry forward. You got this!
